Annual Giving

October 27, 2007

Dear Friend of Upland Hills School,

The air is crisp with fall. And with the many falling leaves, there come plenty of compelling requests for your charitable dollars. My letter to you today is just such a request. What is different about my request is how direct and visible an impact your gift can make in the life of a child at Upland Hills School.

Do you value a school that believes in Nature as a primary teacher? Visit the school and notice the restoration of the savannah prairie between the garden and the greenhouse, or check out the improvements being made to the greenhouse so that the children can grow food nearly year around. Take a walk on the trails around the school and come upon a “squirrel hut” built by one of Ted’s Groupers-they actually journal and spend the night in those things!

How about a school that teaches cooperation, collaboration, creativity and helps to develop a sense of self and self confidence? Attend any Theatre Play Shop or Jellybean Players performance at the Karen Joy Theatre and you will see that school is Upland Hills. Watch an afternoon of Playful Moments or Movement and witness a young child learning self mastery and relationship building through play.

Come to the school at all hours and witness the boundless energy and curiosity of children at play, learning as they play about themselves, about each other, about how the world really works. Observe the deep caring of one child for another as he comforts a friend who has fallen, or as she shouts encouragement during All School Games. My kids’ best, lifelong friends are still the ones they made here at school, five years after they graduated.

Perhaps a little harder to discern is the impact of a gift to Nancy’s Fund. Just look around and you will see at least one of the 23 children who are able to attend school this year through the magic of tuition assistance.

If you like what you feel and like what you see when you visit or think about Upland Hills School, consider making a gift this year to Upland Hills School. Maybe you can join the ranks of “The Bridge Builders” with a gift of $1000 or more. Or perhaps you can afford to dedicate $500 towards Nancy’s Fund. You may be moved to offer $1 per day to support the day to day operations of the school. Even if you can only give $10 or $25, it is an important gift that directly affects the life of one of our students.

This year, you can even give on-line, at our website,
www.uplandhills.org – check it out! It can’t be any easier than this to support the children, staff and facilities at Upland Hills School.

Join the tradition of annual giving; Upland Hills School exists because of the strength and generosity of our community. Don’t forget that your annual gift is 100% tax deductible!

Sincerely,

Linda Bowers Director of Annual Giving

P.S. I just found out that we have a 10% matching challenge grant from a group that includes an alumni, current parent, alumni parent, grandparent, and staff member. For every $100 that is raised between November 1 and December 31, this group will match it with an additional $10! Make your annual gift go even further and join in the fun of this challenge.
