| Upland Hills
School encourages children to know themselves and to connect with their
environment as responsible world citizens. We provide a full academic
program that emphasizes mastery of skills and creative growth. Our
vision is that through the alignment and commitment of parents and teachers,
children will come to see themselves as having extraordinary learning
potential and access to the greatest human experience; love.
Over the years
we have learned that the creative and performing arts are wonderful ways for
children to develop a sense of contribution and self worth; that small class
size is essential to that ideal; that being located on hills surrounded by
forests and farms has virtually demanded that the natural world affect our
curriculum more powerfully than any other force.
Children
embraced by nature find themselves supported, enthralled and mystified by
the hills, trees, wetlands and wildlife that are part of our campus. Our
classes often take place in the woods or on trails. We know that the love
our children receive every day from this place will bring forth their
natural desire to protect and nurture the natural world. We teach our
children how to learn and how to understand the connections between
all things.
We teach them how academic competencies are the necessary tools to
bring full value to their educational experiences. We hope that the children
who are here will help transform our world, today and tomorrow, into a place
of compassionate and loving beings. We are deeply committed to children
being whole, healthy, inspired, encouraged and functioning individuals.

"This
I believe, is the great Western truth: that each of us is a
completely unique creature, and that if we are ever to give any gift
to the world it will have to come out of our own experience and
fulfillment of our own potentialities, not someone else's"
Joseph Campbell |
